Make: Decorative Día De Los Muertos Calavera with Sandy Roberts!
Learn the history, chemistry, and craft behind making sugar skulls –Calaveras — a traditional part of the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead. Then we’ll learn to make our own and decorate them. As an extra bonus, we’ll make a light-up sugar skull card!
Watch and make LIVE on the Family Maker Camp FB page or on the Make: Kids Youtube channel.
Materials list:
- table sugar
- powdered sugar
- meringue powder
- gel or paste food dyes
- water
- a sugar skull mold (we suggest these)
- bowls and measuring cups
- spoons for mixing
- a sugar skull paper template (we suggest this free one)
- two 5mm LEDs any color
- one 3V coin battery CR2032 or CR2025
- Maker tape or copper tape (we suggest the Paper Circuits kit from MakerShed)
