- Paraffin wax or leftover candles
- dryer lint or wood shavings
- paper egg cartons (or paper muffin cups)
- a double boiler
- a stove or hot plate
- copper sulfide (sold as root killer in hardware stores) or potassium chloride (sold as NuSalt in grocery stores)
- safety goggles
